April 2011 Chiefs Message
It is hard to believe how fast this year is moving. Spring is finally here and winter is gone but the fun memories we created will stay for a lifetime. The value of these memories was highlighted for me when my 8th grade daughter’s tribe had a reunion at the Pathfinder Cosmic Bowling. After bowling my daughter told me that the girls spent most of the evening remembering the fun things they did as a tribe and with their dads. When we arrived home I received a hug and a “Thanks for being a great dad”.
That moment is why the CVNSND program exists.
Some of the memories we created this winter were at our Polar Blast Snow Tubing event. We had a strong turnout for this event this year. The slopes were the fastest we have ever had for this event. Boston Mills needed to lay rubber mats at the end of the hill to slow down the tubes. Thanks to the Mohawk tribe for organizing this event.
The Hopi tribe sponsored the Father Daughter Dance at the beginning of March. This event was popular in the early days of our organization but somehow fell out of favor and had not been on the CVNSND calendar for many years. Three years ago the Hopi tribes sponsored this event and have improved it every year making it a great time for Fathers and Daughters.
The competition was intense at this year’s Pine Car Derby. The excitement surrounding the races caught the attention of the media and reporters were dispatched to see what the CVNSND Longhouse was up to. There were many fancy Pine Car designs and fine-tuned racing machines. In the end we crowned a new Pine Car Champion. Congratulations go to Emily Niezgoda from the Apache Tribe as our 2011 Pine Car Winner and Kenny Bevan from the Erie Tribe as the runner up. Go to http://brecksville.patch.com/articles/dads-and-kids-race-car-creations to see the local media article about our Pine Car Event. A big thanks to the Erie and Apache tribes for the nice job they did organizing this event.
Pathfinders were also busy the past 2 months. In February the Pathfinders joined the CVNSND for the Polar Blast Snow Tubing event. In March we had about 70 Fathers and Pathfinders show up for our Cosmic Bowling event at Seven Hills lanes. Make sure you check out the Pathfinder article for details on April’s Laser Tag event.
We have some fun events coming up in April and May. Bumper Bowling is always a big hit and the Buffalo Naval Park is a unique event that your children will always remember. Hope to see you at our spring events. The smiles that you put on your children’s face will come back and reward you many times in the future.
